The Importance of Small Actions

We currently live in a culture that promotes self-care and provides countless resources on how to do it best. Instagram posts and influencers constantly tell us how we can improve our lives and what products we should buy to achieve it. But self-care doesn’t need to come at the expense of your bank account.

I hear so many of my clients say that by the end of their week, they feel completely depleted, and yet the weekend does little to revive them before Monday comes. But the weekend doesn’t have to be the only time you recharge your batteries.

I encourage you to make a list—whether you physically write it down, note it on your phone, or just keep a mental list—of things you love to do during the day but no longer make time for. This could be going for a walk, reading your new fantasy book, actually sitting down to drink your coffee while scrolling your phone, engaging in a texting session with a good friend, or even doing some online shopping for 20 minutes.

These may seem small or too indulgent given your current schedule and responsibilities. But the length of time you engage in these activities at first isn’t the point. The point is to identify what brings you comfort, what gives your mind (and body) a break from the daily grind, and then learn how to prioritize it.

So, I challenge you to incorporate these comfort breaks into your day for a month. Bring in a friend or partner to help if you need extra motivation. I’d be surprised if you don’t find yourself looking forward to them throughout the week.

Good luck!
